Sweet Potato au Gratin

This is quite possibly the easiest side dish you could throw together, making it perfect for big family holiday gatherings when there are already too many things happening in the kitchen.

Sweet Potato au Gratin


  • 2 large sweet potatoes peeled
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • pinch of pepper
  • 3 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
  • fresh thyme, minced optional


  1. Preheat oven to 375F.

  2. Slice potatoes into 1/4 inch thick slices.

  3. Place potatoes in a greased 8-in. square baking dish. 

  4. In a bowl, beat the egg. Add in the cream, salt, nutmeg and pepper and mix well.

  5. Pour mixture over the potatoes. Sprinkle with cheese.

  6. Bake, uncovered, for 40-45 minutes or until the potatoes are tender. Serve warm with additional cheese or fresh thyme sprinkled on top.
