Heat olive oil in a large pot and add in sausage. Crumble and cooked thoroughly.
Drain sausage, if desired, and return to pot. Add in onion and garlic and sauté for a few minutes.
Add in broth, tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring to a light boil. Let simmer for 5-10 minutes, until onions are tender.
Add in kale and tortellini, and cook for 7-9 minutes longer, until tortellini is tender.
Serve warm with parmesan cheese. If soup is too thick, add a little water to thin out.
